School of Paris
The School of Paris describes, not an art movement or a learning establishment, but instead is more indicative of the importance of Paris as a centre of Western art in the early decades of the 20th century.
A leading figure of the School of Paris was the Spaniard Pablo Picasso, who moved to France in 1904. Picasso’s variety of creative styles is representative of the kind of interchange that transcends the works of the School of Paris artists.
In addition to Picasso, the group of non-French artists in Paris before World War I who created in the styles of Post-Impressionism, Cubism, and Fauvism, includes artists such as Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali and Joan Miró.
